If the title just reminded you of the Rishi-Neetu musical then stop. The film isn’t that enchanting!! It is a pleasant entertainer no doubt but for the climax that impetuously claims to be ‘different’!
Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan) is an architect and a compliant son. Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor) is a carefree, open-minded and optimistic hair stylist. Both are jobless and a night in bar gets them talli enough to get hitched. As they decide to annul their marriage, a friendship develops that enables them to cognize each other. Journey of life makes them travel from Vegas to India.
There are just two good things about the film. One, characterization- the director depicts how a person’s surroundings and circumstances influence his attitude in life. Two, performances- Imran gives a splendid performance. Bebo too does so barring a very few scenes.
The film has a good sense of humor. Imran Khan is particularly cute. He gets the skin of his character. Kareena Kapoor is a white beauty though she does look less like Imran’s heroine & more like his brother ki dulhan! However the script justifies that. Ratna Pathak Shah and Boman Irani are wonderful actors.
Music director Amit Trivedi does an appreciable job with the background score, but his soundtrack does not rise above the peppy Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Sadly even this song has not been used to its best.
New time director, Shakun Batra has a very good grip over the story. He deserves applause for convincing characterization of every character. His film is crisp but for the ending. The melodrama towards the near-ending gets a little boring which probably the director realizes and brings in a ‘change’at the acme!
The movie ends on quite a friendly note… After all, “Pyaar dosti hai, love is friendship.” What an absolutely delightful thought!

DON 2
You may want to call it Dhoom! Yes, the Shahrukh Khan starrer DON 2 resembles the YashRaj series of films on stylized heist carried out by the lead protagonist himself. Now it’s great watching Shahrukh perform those energetic stunts and flaunt his muscles in the process, but come to think of it actually- Why does the DON have to do so much stuff all by himself? It begins to look heroic than Don-ic!
Don gets himself arrested and goes to a jail which is now the residence of Vardhan(Boman Irani). Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is very happy to see Don jailed. Vardhan is the key to an important tape which can turn Don into a billionaire. He escapes the jail along with Vardhan to black mail the President of a German bank. He then goes on to scheme a magnanimous and nearly namumkin robbery of money printing plates. Meanwhile detectives Mallik(Om Puri) and Roma and are busy hunting Don. Don’s current girlfriend, Ayesha (Lara Dutta) and a terrific computer hacker, Sameer Ali (Kunal Kapoor) form a part of the plan.
The plot is somewhat too complex to be understood by quite a majority of the audience. And it cleverly sets a fast pace preventing you from trying to spot loopholes! Towards the ending there can be two interpretations- One, DON is a brilliant chess player or two, the writers fool around the audience by the prequel DON type twist(only that this one has some lack of honesty!)
It can be intoxicating to watch SRK smile. So our cute dimpled DON keeps smiling now and then enchanting you. (Who cares if he is a smuggler and does illegal stuff?) He has developed a new style of walk. Wonder if that’s the DON style or those injuries hurt him! (Hope for the former.) Usually, the DON is calmly and stylishly mouthing those Donny dialogues, but the other times when he is supposed to be angry, it’s like he’s just shhh-ed the lead actress who is taking in a lot of stress. So this Don is sweet and cute and nice!
Director Farhan Akhtar seems to have got everything right while building the Don-Roma relationship. And quite a relationship it turns out to be! Priyanka Chopra is extremely good in those scenes. Well, it’s not difficult…loving Shahrukh, is it?
Lara Dutta plays a trivial part well. Kunal Kapoor knows his job. Boman Irani looks submissive in certain parts, but that was probably his role. Farhan Akhtar once again depicts his potential of building suspense in a story too well.

ROCKSTAR
It’s not just about the story… the manner in which it is presented also holds the power to enthrall. And ask Imtiaz Ali about both!
In the perfect Imtiaz sense, the protagonists exude ‘pagalpan' and wish to do things that perhaps no ‘sane’ person would! Jab We Met had stated “All is fair in love”. Well, Rockstar breathes it.
Janardhan Jakhar(JJ) loves to sing. He is told that only pain in life can make him a great singer. He meets Heer (Nargis Fakhri) in want of a heartbreak. Living in a world that imposes faux morality, incessant love victimizes them both.
Evidently, Rockstar is an enigmatic creation of an artiste. It is meant to be unconventional. It is probably ironical that a film as sophisticated as this is about a character as crudely simple as Janardhan. Films often bring in the "v/s" concept. This guy "v/s" the other- who will the girl choose?, good "v/s" evil- who shall win?, and not very uncommonly, right "v/s" wrong-how will the righteous succeed? Rockstar brings about perspectives. And it is too intelligent to do anything conventional. A frustrated, angry, wounded Jordan sets the perfect tone of rebel, dissent and revolution. Sadda Haq is the heart of the film. Watch Jordan vent out his angst in a true rockstar avatar. Iconoclasts breathe.
Nargis Fakhri has an amazing style of her own. Ranbir Kapoor is fabulous as an innocent Janardhan, a wannabe Jim Morrison, a fun-lover, a brazen artist(who also tears out a contract into pieces and sings out his abuses), guy with a despicable media-image, a frustrated Jordan and essentially a lover. Shammi Kapoor’s cameo contributes finely to this epic.
Music(A R Rahman) of the film is fascinating, lyrics(Irshad Kamil) beautiful. It is not often that one will come across such tracks- bow in respect! Mohit Chauhan's voice creates magic and suits both JJ & Jordan(who are actually not that different from each-other) very well.
This one's sophisticatedly radical, rebellious and bleeds passion! It's intensity can kill. Either you go with the flow, or you don't. But if you do manage to, this would be one of the best, your eyes have witnessed!

RA.ONE
Hardly any sci-fi movie has much logic. So better not expect much from this one too. This one could have made a great film had it not been crude at places and had that stereotyped humor at times. Its little bit of mediocrity hurts! However, the film does have stuff to sell- its special effects, Akonic Chammak Challo and SRK. Ah! SRK…
Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and Shekhar Subramaniyam (King Khan) live in London with son, Prateek. Shekhar creates a game for his son Prateek(Armaan Verma) in which the villain has more powers than the hero. Trouble arises when Ra.One, the villain enters the world of reality in pursuit of Prateek. G.One, the hero is brought into the real world too to fight Ra.One and the game continues.
Newbie Armaan Verma desperately needs a good hair stylist! His histrionics are somehow annoying! Kareena Kapoor’s abuses are just out of context. She repeats the unattractive Golmaal act, lacking the Jab We Met honesty. Other places, she delivers a good/great performance. One person who only deserves praise (loads of it) is Shah Rukh Khan for the actor’s job is done brilliantly. He does the cheap acts with dignity! Infact, Shahrukh as G.One is so cute, that you could fall in love with him.(if you already weren’t!)
Ra.One runs on the old, victory-of-good-over-evil formula. But there is something appealing about it. Perhaps there is something always appealing about goodness. Beautifully, Shahrukh makes both his characters (Shekhar and G.One) endearing. His charisma is beyond an explanation. Also, his chemistry with Kareena is fabulous. (Remember the aesthetically pleasing Asoka.) Arjun Rampal is as good as ever. One may wonder why he is given such a late entry though. Other actors give decent performances. Cameo by Rajnikanth seems to have an abrupt ending.
Vishal-Shekhar’s music and the choreography of songs are extremely good.
Overall, some great visual effects, comedy, Kareena-Shahrukh’s chemistry provide quite good entertainment. The element of goodness is all the more alluring. And of course, there is the Badshah to gawk at!

BODYGUARD
Theshkyaao! This one’s a typical mass movie with quite a characteristic southern flavor. Neither does it make an effort to impress you by usage of any sophisticated camera angles or lighting effects, nor does it use its rustiness to its favor. It comes to you just as it is- stark and forthright. The starting credit titles too appear on a plain black screen! Obsolete.
Talk of Salman Khan, and his list of commercially successful action comedy flicks seem to be only getting bigger…Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and now Bodyguard. The good part is that he is getting better at it. His confidence and comfort can be seen on the celluloid. His portrayal of a bodyguard’s physique in this movie is pretty praiseworthy.
The film at first seems to be a hero dominated one but equitably provides a deserved scope to its female lead, Kareena Kapoor as it proceeds. She delivers a terrific performance in what can be called the best part of the film.
Now the film has such an outdated appeal to itself that calling its first half to be average could be an exaggeration. It runs a parallel sub-plot for the sake of comedy, as was in the olden times. Also, usage of the typical low camera angles to depict the ‘goondas’ is so very much an eye-tiring and an overused concept. Visually, it has nothing much to offer. Even the total action sequences involving visual effects are not convincing. It is confusing whether one ought to blame the editor or the director himself for those bizarre sequences!
Nonetheless, in comes a song which completely breaks the monotony and is cinematically appealing. Not a tough task- guessing that! Also, the film gradually picks up towards the climax and has a decent ending.
Other performances in the movie were ok. Not that the movie provided a great scope to them in the first place. A superfluous footage has been given to Rajat Rawail aka Tsunami. Neither does he act well nor does he entertain. Why on earth was he there?
The film’s music has nothing much to offer except for one or two good tracks. Katrina Kaif’s special appearance in the title song is hardly noteworthy.
Overall, watch out for Kareena playing the nearly tragic love story with sheer beauty. Salman too deserves praise for his act of honesty and loyalty. Their portrayal of sacrifice and true love can perhaps, touch your heart!

Bheja Fry 2
Rajat Kapoor was absolutely missed, where was he?! Add to that, the script writers make a not very delicious bheja fry! Their first attempt was too good to digest this perhaps!
Anyone who sees his acting gets impressed. He has an alluring smile and does total justice to any character given to him. That is Kay Kay Menon. Now watching Kay Kay not in absolute charge of his character comes in as a surprising shock.
For once, let’s not talk of the acting department. Majorly, everybody manages a fair meal! Where the problem lay is what is called the backbone of a film - the script. Having every opportunity to conclude the movie giving a right message, the writers and the director fail to do just that. Had not Bheja Fry spectacularly done that?
The manner, in which the second half of the film proceeds, creates an overall imbalance. Ajit Talwar(KK Menon) and Bharat Bhushan(Vinay Pathak) seem to be deliberately put up together. And all of a sudden, every other character in the film is rendered unimportant and prematurely abandoned. In comes Amol Gupte out of nowhere making the movie even more asymmetrical in its appeal! Also, Ajit Talwar seems to have given up his ‘battle’ against Bhushan long before the act is actually over.
However something that clicked pretty well was the comedy of the film. Watch Vinay Pathak get into the Bharat Bhushan mode again or watch KK imitate Bhushan’s bizarre laugh “ha-ha’, they do manage to add the right masala.
Though Kay Kay plays well the lusty and shrewd businessman, Talwar’s heart does not seem to be in the right place. Vinay Pathak’s Bhushan act deserves applause. Minnisha Lamba, Amol Gupte, Suresh Menon and the others play their trivial parts justice-ably.
The part of island where the duo is stuck up together is not convincingly shown for the locations seem to be frivolously changing as per the demand of the script. Kay Kay seems over shadowed by Pathak which takes away the very essence of the story.
All in all, Bheja Fry 2 is a no big deal and sheer disappointment, all thanks to its distasteful screenplay!

Thank You
It is quite evident that Anees Bazmee attempts to recreate his No Entry for the film runs on quite a similar note, not that there is anything wrong in doing that. The good thing about Thank You is that it conveys its message via a medium that the audience will fancy. But somehow the message giving is less impactful permitting the audience to savor the soda and leave behind milk!
Bobby Deol, Irfan Khan and Suniel Shetty are three treacherous two-timers. Sanjana(Sonam Kapoor) plays a sensitive wife to the not-so-faithful Raj(Bobby Deol), Shivani(Rimmi Sen) plays a smart wife to the not-so-faithful Vikram(Irrfan Khan) and Maya(Celina Jaitley) finds a servant in her not-so-faithful and moronic husband Yogi(Suniel Shetty)! Kishen(Akshay Kumar), the maverick who is himself no less than the traitorous trio,takes on the task of setting the three men right.
The film is not as humorous as a slapstick comedy ought to be. At the most, it can invigorate a little laugh here and there, and that’s all. The film could have been crispier as its pace gets a little boring at places. However the characters of the film fit pretty well into their hats and that is sufficient to carry on the drama.
The film has some good notable performances. Bobby Deol plays the perfidious husband in the first half and performs the angry-Dharmendra charm in the later half pretty well. Irrfan Khan’s comic timing and dialogue delivery were superbly idiosyncratic of him. Suniel Shetty had nothing much to offer but managed to lend a good support to the comic timing. Sonam Kapoor does a decent job but does not forget to smile while shedding tears! However, she manages to look stunning. Rimmi Sen deserves an applause for brilliantly enacting a timid wife to her power mongering husband while actually remaining least bothered. Celina does a good job but haplessly goes missing for a large part. As usual, this man’s performance was terrific- Akshay Kumar. He smiles to enchant you. His accent is his style. He plays the perfect hero with such ease as you would run a knife into soft cheese! He is a marvel.
Pritam’s music is outstanding with most soundtracks being foot tapping party beats. Some of those will definitely remain the season’s favorites. Talking of Mallika Sherawat's item number, yes, it is very understandable that the lass could manage just a day out of her busy schedule for the song, but that doesn't mean she will mortify the audiences with her horrifying looks! A little more make-up could have proved useful, perhaps.
The star cast of the film is new and unique, they blend and complement each other so well that this provides for an extra edge. That is worth the watch.Overall, the movie is neither too good nor too bad. It acquires a midway zone comfortably and rests there. It might not be as enthralling as No Entry or Welcome but manages a certain appeal to itself thanks to great performers like Akshay, Irrfan and Rimmi.
A big star cast, some good performances, beautiful locales, little drama and comedy make Thank You quite a pleasant watch.

The star cast of the film is new and unique, they blend and complement each other so well that this provides for an extra edge. That is worth the watch.Overall, the movie is neither too good nor too bad. It acquires a midway zone comfortably and rests there. It might not be as enthralling as No Entry or Welcome but manages a certain appeal to itself thanks to great performers like Akshay, Irrfan and Rimmi.
A big star cast, some good performances, beautiful locales, little drama and comedy make Thank You quite a pleasant watch.
